A dog owner has taken to social media to share the unusual warning his vet attached to his pet's new medication, saying it gave him a good laugh when reading it

It's always wise to stick to your vet's advice - even if it's questionable at times. But one man couldn't help but laugh when reading the safety warning his vet stuck to the side of his dog's new medication.

The striking red and white label warns him against allowing his dog to "drive a motor vehicle or operate machinery" while he is taking his pills, the man joked that his pet's 'PAW Patrol' dreams are now in shatters. Sharing his vet's advice on Reddit, he wrote: "The vet put a warning on my dog's medication for him not to operate heavy machinery or drive while affected."

Although the man doesn't explain what the medication is being used to treat, the bottle clearly state that it should only be used "for animal treatment only". The vet's warning, which has been stuck on to the medication packs, reads: "This medication may cause drowsiness and may increase the effects of alcohol. If affected, do not drive a motor vehicle or operate machinery."

One user joked: "How is he supposed to drive to work?" while another added: "I'm impressed that their dog can read". A third user said: "I'd interpret that to mean the vet believes it's OK for your dog to operate heavy machinery and drive a car when not taking the medicine."

Another user joked: "Please, be responsible and take away his keys for now. Your dog can drive once he feels better." In an attempt to clear things up, a pharmacy technician explained how some chemists input an animal's species - such as dog, cat, rabbit, as their middle name on their records to avoid this confusion.

They said: "I thought having a pet species next to a name meant something special, instead of it literally going to a pet. I didn't know what 'first name, dog, last name' would mean but I was almost certain that it wasn’t just a pet medication. It didn’t help that the first pet medication that I gave to a customer didn’t even have it written that it was a pet."

In response, one user said: "We joke that my dog's middle name is Dog because of this. I've forgotten what medicine it was, but it was hilarious to us that the label said Grumpy Dog (Last name). I think it's even more funny since his name is obviously not a human's. - imagine a toddler named Grumpy."

Another pharmacy technician added: "I've got a good one for you! Want to know why we have the 'middle name' for pets? Because my pharmacist once told the 'owner' of a 'pet' that Bubbles should only take half the dosage that it says on the prescription and the other half as needed.

"The lady looked offended apparently and said in the most serious tone ever: 'That is my CHILD.' Needless to say that child is now that pharmacists favourite story to talk about. I wish I was there to witness it but this was apparently many years ago."
